Soft sponge cake

Ingredients:

– 6 large eggs, separated
– 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/4 cup cornstarch
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. **Prepare the oven and pan:**
– Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
– Butter and line the bottom of an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.

2. **Separate the eggs:**
– Separate the egg whites from the yolks in two large mixing bowls.

3. **Beat the egg yolks:**
– Add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar to the egg yolks.
– Beat the egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick. This should take about 3 to 5 minutes.
– Stir in the vanilla extract.
