A creamy cheese sauce for fries is the perfect indulgent topping to turn your regular fries into a decadent treat. Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for making a smooth, creamy cheese sauce:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk (or heavy cream for an even richer sauce)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar is a classic, but you can mix with Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or even pepper jack for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, adds a slight tang and depth)

Instructions:

1. Make the Roux:

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Once the butter is melted, add the flour. Stir continuously to create a smooth paste. Cook the mixture (called a roux) for about 1-2 minutes, just enough to remove the raw flour taste. Be careful not to let it brown.

2. Add the Milk:

  • Gradually whisk in the milk (or heavy cream if you’re using it) while continuously stirring to prevent lumps. Keep whisking until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. It should coat the back of a spoon.

3. Add the Cheese:
