Classic Fried Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk (adjust to desired consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until the yeast becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until combined, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
