Peel and Slice: Begin by peeling the apples and cutting them into thin slices. Try to keep the slices as uniform as possible to ensure even baking. Thin slices will also help them cook through properly inside the puff pastry.

Toss with Sugar and Cinnamon: In a mixing bowl, combine the apple slices with sugar and cinnamon. Adjust the amount of sugar and cinnamon to your taste. If you prefer a sweeter dessert, you can add a little more sugar.

Step 2: Prepare the Puff Pastry

Roll Out the Puff Pastry: If using frozen puff pastry, make sure to thaw it according to the package instructions. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a thin rectangular sheet. Aim for about ¼-inch thickness, making sure it’s even all around.

Cut into Strips: Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into long strips, about 2-3 inches wide. These strips will be twisted around the apple slices, creating the delicious twists.

Step 3: Assemble the Twists

Place Apples on Pastry Strips: Lay the apple slices along the length of each strip of puff pastry, making sure they overlap slightly. The apples should cover about half of the strip, leaving the other half to fold over.

Fold and Twist: Fold the other half of the puff pastry strip over the apples, pressing down lightly to seal the edges. Once folded, gently twist each strip to create a spiral shape. Don’t worry if some of the apple slices peek out; this adds to the rustic appeal of the dish.

Step 4: Egg Wash and Bake

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it lightly over the top of each puff pastry twist. This will give the pastries a golden, glossy finish when baked.

Bake: Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave some space between them as they will puff up. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crisp.

Step 5: Dust and Serve

Cool and Dust with Powdered Sugar: Once the twists are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. After they have cooled, dust them generously with powdered sugar for a beautiful finishing touch.

Serve Warm: These Apple Cinnamon Puff Pastry Twists are best enjoyed warm, straight out of the oven, when the puff pastry is still crisp and the apples are tender.
