Pecan Toffee Squares Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Toffee Layer:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves or chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for drizzling on top)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Crust:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake the crust for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Once baked, remove it from the oven and set it aside to cool slightly.

2. Make the Toffee Layer:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Once the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved, let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. The toffee mixture will thicken slightly.
  • Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the baked crust, spreading it out with a spatula if necessary.

3. Add the Pecans:
