- Prepare the ingredients:
- Wash and cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets.
- Clean and slice the mushrooms.
- Slice the onion and mince the garlic.
- Blanch the broccoli (optional, but it makes it tender):
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the broccoli florets and cook for about 2-3 minutes, until just tender but still bright green.
- Drain and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again when ready to use.
- Cook the stir-fry:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.
- Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, being careful not to burn it.
- Toss in the sliced mushrooms and stir-fry for 5-6 minutes until they begin to brown and soften.
- Combine with broccoli:
- Add the blanched broccoli (or fresh if you skipped blanching) to the skillet and stir everything together.
- Drizzle with soy sauce and sesame oil, stirring to coat evenly.
- Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if you like some spice.
- Finish and serve:
- Stir everything until well combined and heated through.
- Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
- Serve hot as a side dish or over rice or noodles for a full meal.
Tips:
- You can add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or snap peas to make the dish even more colorful and nutritious.
- For protein, consider adding tofu, chicken, or beef to the stir-fry.
- Adjust the seasoning to your taste with more soy sauce, garlic, or ginger.
Enjoy your healthy and flavorful sautéed mushroom and broccoli stir-fry!
