Cleaning the Washing Machine: Complete Guide
Periodically cleaning the washing machine is necessary, but not many people know about the existence of a ‘hidden switch’ on this appliance.

Importance of Cleaning the Washing Machine

The washing machine is an essential appliance in a modern home. After a while of use, it accumulates a lot of bacteria and dirt. It is therefore necessary to clean it periodically to keep your clothes clean and odor-free.

Find and use the hidden switch

On some washing machines, there is a “hidden switch” that you must turn on to get the dirty water to drain.

This part is usually located in the lower right corner of the washing machine, with a small cover above it. Press lightly so that the top cover opens. This is where the machine’s sediment filter is located.

Before opening the sediment filter cover, place a cloth underneath to prevent residual dirty water from leaking out and dirtying the floor. Remove the filter tube by gently twisting it and then pulling it out.

Use a brush to clean dirt and detergent residue from the filter.
Check the filter compartment in the machine and use a damp cloth to wipe it before replacing the filter.

Differences according to machine type
Normally, the filter designed at the bottom of the machine body is for front loading washing machines. For top loading machines, the sediment filter will be in the form of a plastic bag or tray located directly in the wash drum.
